- Open the app and go to the Upload tab.
- Pick a video from your library.
- You’ll see a preview with space for captions.
2) Generate Captions
- Tap Generate Captions.
- Captionly transcribes your audio automatically (requires iOS Speech permission).
- When done, caption lines (with times) appear below the player.
Tip: For best results, use clear audio with minimal background noise.
3) Edit Captions
- Tap any line to edit the text.
- Use the play buttons beside each line to preview the timing quickly.
- Keep lines short (≈ 40 characters) for mobile readability.
4) Export
SRT (free)
- Tap Export SRT to create a standard .srt file for platforms that import captions.
- Share or save the file directly from the iOS share sheet.
Burn-In MP4 (Pro)
- Tap Export Burn-In MP4 to bake the text into a new video file.
- If you’re not Pro yet, you’ll see a paywall to upgrade or restore purchases.
- Keep the app in the foreground during export; long/high-res videos take longer.
5) Schedule Reminders
Use the Schedule tab to set a date/time and optional note. You’ll get a reminder to post or share your video.
- Allow notifications in iOS Settings if prompted.
- Scheduling opens your share flow at the right time (auto-posting to social networks isn’t supported by most platforms).
6) Troubleshooting
Captions don’t generate
- Enable Settings → Privacy & Security → Speech Recognition for Captionly.
- Try again on Wi-Fi (some devices use online speech models).
- Test on a real device; the Simulator may not have all speech models.
MP4 export fails or stalls
- Free up storage space and keep the app in the foreground.
- Try a shorter clip first. 4K or very long videos take longer to render.
Pro not unlocking
- Tap Restore Purchases in the in-app Settings.
- Check you’re signed into the same Apple ID used to buy.
7) FAQ
What’s the difference between SRT and burn-in?
SRT is a text file with timestamps that many platforms import. Burn-in writes the text into the pixels of a new video, so it’s always visible.
Can I change the caption style?
Yes—burn-in style uses high-contrast fonts with a subtle stroke for readability. More styling options are planned.
Do you store my videos?
No. Videos stay on your device unless you export/share them. See our Privacy Policy for details.
