What is VibeTrigger?

VibeTrigger is a proximity-based ringtone app. You set a personal Trigger ID, record custom anthems for friends, and when their phone (with VibeTrigger installed) comes nearby, your phone can play their anthem or vibrate based on your settings.

How does Bluetooth detection work?

VibeTrigger uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to scan for other phones running VibeTrigger which are broadcasting a Trigger ID. This happens locally on your phone. No data is sent to servers for this detection.

Why do I need to set a Trigger ID?

The Trigger ID is like your unique handle. Other users add it to their app so the app knows whose anthem to play when your phone gets nearby. You might choose something like @milton or another handle you’re comfortable sharing.

Why can’t I see a friend automatically?

For privacy reasons, VibeTrigger only detects other phones that:

  • Have VibeTrigger installed
  • Have set and saved a Trigger ID
  • Are added to your friend list in the app

You must manually add a friend’s Trigger ID in your app for it to detect and consider them.

Why didn’t the app trigger in a crowded environment?

Bluetooth signal range is influenced by things like:

  • Walls and physical obstructions
  • Other electronic devices
  • Phone position (in a pocket, bag, etc.)
  • iOS power-saving restrictions

Even with these factors, the app uses BLE filters to detect friends without affecting battery life too much, but detection timing can vary.

Troubleshooting

Permissions

Make sure:

  • Bluetooth is enabled in iOS Settings.
  • Location permissions are granted (if requested).

Recording Issues

If an anthem won’t record or play:

  • Check microphone permission in iOS Settings.
  • Make sure your friend’s Trigger ID is correct (case-sensitive).
  • Confirm the file exists by tapping “Play” next to their name.

Bluetooth Not Detecting

If a nearby friend’s phone doesn’t show up:

  • Have them check their Trigger ID is saved.
  • Restart VibeTrigger on their phone.
  • Move closer (Bluetooth range is not global).
